The award-winning Intersport Run Reigate Half Marathon & 10K returns to Surrey’s Priory Park on Sunday 17th September 2017 for its fourth anniversary race.
Set up in 2014 by local running enthusiasts as a half marathon, the event grew quickly to include a 10K by 2015 and a cumulative kids’ race by 2016. It is now a firm fixture in the diary for runners young and old, with fantastic community support and a beautiful route through rural Surrey on fully closed roads.
Such has been the success of the event that the Intersport Run Reigate Half Marathon won Gold for the UK’s Best Half Marathon (less than 5,000 runners) at The Running Awards 2017, the only independent awards ceremony celebrating the best of running and its culture. This follows its Silver award in the Half Marathon category in 2015.
The single-lap course takes in a combination of picturesque countryside and country lanes, and sees communities of local supporters line up along the route to cheer the runners on.
The 2017 Intersport Run Reigate Half Marathon & 10K will kick off with the 10K at 9.00am, followed by the Half Marathon at 9.15am and the first wave of the Canon Kids Race at approximately midday.
The Canon Kids Race is open to young runners aged 4-15 years and, as a cumulative half marathon, is a brilliant way for children to experience the thrill of a big sporting event. The participants run 12 miles in their own time and the final 1.1 miles on race day, with a grand finale to the cheering of hundreds of spectators in Priory Park. All young runners will receive a fantastic medal and technical t-shirt.
Those entering the 2017 Intersport Run Reigate Half Marathon & 10K can look forward to a high quality runner experience. The large Event Village will feature a huge bag drop, a warm-up, toilets, massage tent and live music. The races will have staggered start times, chip timing, Xempo pacers, en-route toilets, energy gel and regular water stations.
All finishers will be rewarded with a collectable 2017 Brooks technical t-shirt, a heavyweight bespoke medal, water and banana. Post event, a mouth-watering selection of gourmet food stalls at the Jellyfish Food Village offers the perfect place to refuel, and children can enjoy the free Move Revolution Active Village, filled with music, entertainment, activities and experiences. It makes for a fun-packed and inspirational day out for all the family.
The 2017 Star Charity Partner for the Intersport Run Reigate Half Marathon and 10K is The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity in partnership with George and the Giant Pledge, with all funds raised going directly towards children’s cancer at the Royal Marsden. The Canon Kids Race will be supporting both the Star Charity and The Children’s Trust. To date, over £500,000 has been raised by the event for a range of much-loved causes.
Sponsors for the race include global sports retailer Intersport, returning for the third consecutive year, digital marketing agency Jellyfish and high performance running brand Brooks.
