The Llandudno Sea Triathlon and Middle Distance takes place on Sunday 25th June 2017 and registration is open.
The Llandudno Sea Triathlon is set amongst spectacular scenery and is a must-do event in the triathlon calendar, with options of a draft legal sprint, a non-drafting standard and a middle distance race.
The middle distance race is new for 2017 and will comprise a 1900m sea swim, a 87km cycle starting with one lap of the Great Orme and a 20km run around the Conwy hills and finishing along the coast.
The sprint distance event will be an ITU Sprint Distance Triathlon World Championship qualifier for the 2017 ITU Sprint Distance Triathlon World Championships in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, in September 2017.
This is a draft legal race; draft legal guidelines can be found here.
The event attracts athletes of all levels, with many club and GB age group athletes competing in North Wales year after year. The event also features a women’s only wave.
Each of the middle, standard and the sprint distance triathlons incorporate the thrill of a sea swim followed by a cycle on closed roads around the Great Orme, with a challenging climb, fast descent and glorious views over the North Wales Coast. The run route goes out along the Victorian Promenade before heading over the Little Orme to Penrhyn Bay and back to finish on the promenade.
Middle distance race: 1900m open water swim – 87km cycle – 20km run
Standard distance race: 1500m open water swim – 36km (4 laps) cycle – 10km run
Sprint distance race: 750m open water swim – 19km (2 laps) cycle – 5km run
Transition is near the jetty on the promenade providing an exciting spectacle for those who just want to watch.
The hub of the event is on the promenade where the crowd of spectators can watch the swim in the sea, the transition area and the athletes crossing the finish line.
The Llandudno Sea Triathlon continues to grow in size and popularity, with many athletes combining the race with a weekend away with friends and family in the Welsh seaside resort.
