The second Manchester Half Marathon takes place on Sunday 15th October 2017, with a start time of 9.00am and a total of 15,000 places available.
Starting and finishing at Emirates Old Trafford home of Lancashire County Cricket Club, the Manchester Half Marathon is one of the flattest and fastest half marathons with only 41m elevation gain and a glorious 2 mile+ finish straight. The athletes’ village is also at Emirates Old Trafford, with fantastic facilities for runners.
Run on wide, closed roads, the flat and fast course takes runners through Old Trafford, Stretford, Brooklands and Sale, and the organisers are once again promising lots of entertainment and outstanding crowd support.
The inaugural Manchester Half Marathon was a resounding success and the 2017 race is expected to be a key date in the diary for the running community near and far. The race’s superfast course makes it one of the best events in which to run a PB, with 74% of the first 50 finishers achieving a PB (personal best) or SB (seasonal best) at the 2016 event. At its debut the race also saw 22 male athletes beat the magical 70-minute mark, an impressive statistic that ranks Manchester as one of the fastest high profile half marathons in the UK.
Adam Hickey took the men’s title at the 2016 Aldi Manchester Half Marathon with a time of 01:04:41 (PB) and Rebecca Murray took the women’s title with a time of 01:12:59 (PB).
The course is accurately measured to IAAF / AIMS certification and feedback from all channels since the first event has been highly positive.
The Manchester Half Marathon also won Bronze in the Half Marathon category (more than 5,000 runners) at The 2017 Running Awards as independently voted for by runners, following the success of the inaugural event last autumn.
Race Director Simon Hill commented: “We were overwhelmed with the success of the 2016 Manchester Half Marathon and entries for the 2017 race are selling fast, especially after coming third in the Half Marathon category at this year’s Running Awards! The superfast course is ideal for first time half marathoners, charity runners and those seeking a PB, and we are looking forward to welcoming runners of all levels from near and far to Manchester next October.
