The Shrewsbury Half Marathon returns to the streets of Shrewsbury for the third year running on Sunday 17th June 2018.
Organised by UK Run Events, the Shrewsbury Half Marathon powered by UKRunChat and Breathe Unity is looking forward to welcoming both returning and new runners to #RunShrewsbury in 2018, and promises to be the biggest and best event yet. There are 5,000 places for the 2018 race and discounted early bird entries have been extended.
The 2017 event was a huge success, its closed-road route through Shrewsbury’s Medieval town centre and some of Shropshire’s most beautiful countryside offering a perfect combination of history and scenery.
The hilly but scenic race starts and finishes at the Shropshire County Show Ground, a 53-acre venue with ample space and facilities for half marathon competitors and supporters. The route then takes runners along the river in the attractive Quarry and through the historic town centre, past hundreds of listed buildings and down steep narrow streets, before heading out over the English bridge to run a loop of the Kingsland estate.
After they ‘conquer the Wyle Cop’, the UK’s longest row of uninterrupted independent shops, runners head out to run the second half of the race in the rolling Shropshire countryside.
The race finishes back at the Show Ground where finishers receive a medal, technical t-shirt and goody bag. Free pre- and post-race massages will be available, and there will be plenty of fun and entertainment at the race village for runners and spectators.
A UKRunChat pacing team will be present at the Shrewsbury Half Marathon to guide runners and help them achieve their target times on the 13.1-mile course. This is a fantastic opportunity to run with experienced pacers in a friendly, social environment and ensure that you achieve your goals on race day.
The Shrewsbury Half Marathon takes place as part of a weekend celebration of running which also includes the final 1.1 mile of the Primary Schools Challenge on Saturday 16th June. This event is open to runners aged four upwards, and a total of 1,500 places are available. Entries for the Primary Schools Challenge will open in November.
The Shrewsbury Half Marathon is a fantastic opportunity for a weekend away with family and friends in one of the most picturesque parts of the UK.
