If there was one character to look out for at the 2017 Vitality Bath Half Marathon on Sunday 12th March, it’s the ‘Running Stormtrooper’ – otherwise known as Jez Allinson.
A seasoned runner who has completed marathons, half marathons and many other races in aid of various charities, Jez donned full Star Wars Stormtrooper armour in Bath this weekend as part of his training for the Virgin Money London Marathon in April.
It was in 2016 that Jez first ran the London Marathon as a Stormtrooper in order to raise money for Make a Wish Foundation UK, a charity that grants magical wishes to children and young people fighting life-threatening conditions. He will be returning to London this year to repeat his effort for Make a Wish, aiming for a sub 5 hour time and a World Record in the process – making the 13.1-mile Vitality Bath Half a perfect training run for what lies ahead.
The Running Stormtrooper will not quite be finished after London, however. An even bigger challenge lies ahead of Bath and London, and that is Jez’ attempt on 4th May to run 40 miles to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Star Wars, finishing at Pinewood Studios, the home of Star Wars.
Running long distances in Stormtrooper armour is unsurprisingly not that comfortable, and this year’s challenges are sure to be tough, but Jez is passionate about raising money and awareness for a charity that does so much to make dreams a reality for sick children all over the UK. Making his journey slightly easier will be new running shoes and running kit donated by ASICS, to act as his stormtrooper undersuit – after the brand saw Jez’ video on The LAD Bible following his heroic efforts last year.
If you were in Bath this weekend, in London in April or around Pinewood Studios in May, look out for the Running Stormtrooper and feel free to donate to his incredible effort as he raises funds for Make a Wish.
May the force be with you, Jez!
