Life as a runner is pretty fast-paced and we can only just keep up with endurance runner Susie Chan! Susie has had a packed schedule during May and June and we’re bringing you her latest update of runs over varying distances, interviews, photo shoots, events and more. If there is one lady who inspires us to lace up our running shoes and get out there, it’s Susie!
Susie Chan – 16 Highlights of May and June
1. North Downs Way 50 – 13th May
Susie and her running buddy Sophie Raworth completed the Centurion Running NDW50, a 50-mile race along the North Downs Way from Surrey to the outskirts of London. They had a fantastic day running together and tackling the 5,600-foot course elevation, earning themselves an enormous medal to be proud of. Well done both!
2. HSBC Sport Rugby 7’s at Twickenham – 21st May
Susie was invited by HSBC Sport to attend the World Finals day of the Rugby 7’s at Twickenham – an excellent opportunity to find out more about the sport, meet rugby legends Brian O’Driscoll and Ben Ryan and soak up the vibrant, thrilling atmosphere!

3. Mini Mermaid Running Club visit
Susie was certainly kept on her toes and given a run around when she visited Mini Mermaid Running Club! This brilliant after-school running club has a mission to teach every girl to lead a healthy life by listening to her inner voice, valuing her uniqueness and loving movement. Susie spoke to the girls about self-belief and self-confidence, and left feeling inspired herself! Susie is a great ambassador of running and loves to visit schools and clubs to inspire runners of all ages.
4. Grand Union Canal Race – crewing Cat Simpson, 27th May
Susie crewed her friend Cat Simpson on the Grand Union Canal Race, a 145-mile non-stop race from the centre of Birmingham to the centre of London. An extremely long and tough race, Cat put in an extraordinary effort to not only win but set a new course record with a time of 27 hours and 26 minutes. A phenomenal achievement! Susie kept us all posted on social media of Cat’s progress and is justifiably proud of her running friend.
5. Return to parkrun – 27th May
Susie’s always been a massive fan of parkrun, as an initiative that makes running available to everyone.
Susie returned to Frimley Lodge parkrun to give it her all in the countdown to the Chicago Marathon – the last of her World Marathon Majors – but found that running fast for the first time in months hurt more than expected. “I went out too fast, then went the wrong way,” she admits, “but I LOVED it”.
6. Outdoor Fitness Magazine – interview and photo shoot
Susie appears on the front cover on the July/August edition of Outdoor Fitness magazine, with a brilliant interview and more photos within. This is a fantastic feature for Susie, showing just how respected she is in the world of running and outdoor sport. 7. ASICS store opening on Oxford Street
Susie attended the opening of the new flagship ASICS store on London’s Oxford Street and got to see the impressive new shop and range of sportswear. The store brings together all ASICS performance and lifestyle brands under one roof and is an exciting addition for runners, all-round active enthusiasts and fitness explorers.
8. Podcast for US show DizRuns
Susie spoke to popular US podcast show DizRuns about her experience racing on roads and trails to deserts and jungles. You can listen to Susie’s podcast and find out what is really her favourite distance is to run…
9. London 10 Mile race – 4th June
Susie took part in the new and exciting London 10 Mile race, London’s only major closed road 10 mile running event.
She loved running the roads and hills around Richmond Park and had a fantastic summer’s day out!
10. Marathon des Sables seminar – 7th June
If you want to know what it’s like to run the awe-inspiring Marathon des Sables, look no further than this panel of Susie alongside running legends Elisabet Barnes and Tom Evans. Together these three running experts hosted a Desert Multi-Stage Running Seminar in London, an inspirational and informative evening where runners of all abilities had their burning questions answered.
11. Man v Horse race – 9th June
Susie worked with Whole Earth Foods to take part in the 22-mile Man v Horse race in mid Wales, where runners compete against riders on horseback. In her own words, it was “soggy, hilly, muddy and extremely fun”! Don’t miss Susie’s video of her experience – Susie was also heard on the BBC talking about it!
12. Guardian feature: ‘How to take better run photos’
She doesn’t just run, she takes great pictures while she’s at it! In this Guardian piece on 14th June, Susie Chan gives seven top tips to take better photos of sport and action. A must-read for anyone wanting to get the perfect action shot quickly and easily! Thanks Susie – some great advice in here.
13. Strava Mile
Having recently been selected as one of 36 athletes to promote and test the new Athlete Posts forum on Strava, Susie took part in Strava’s #MyMile project, where she quite simply had to run 4 times around a race track as fast as she could!
We don’t think we’d catch her at 6:03 – go, Susie!
14. Tsunami Pure Trail race – 17th June
A great benefit to entering races is that you get to run fantastic new routes in stunning scenery, and Susie made the most of Pure Trail’s spectacular Tsunami Coastal Trail Race to have a mini-break in Cornwall. The rugged and wild clifftops may have made for some tough running, but the magnificent views made it all worth it! Susie came 3rd placed lady in the 16-mile race.
15. Blogosphere Magazine party
Susie was invited to attend the Blogosphere Magazine party at the Langham Hotel in London, and was delighted to be selected as a top running blogger! Congratulations Susie. Check out Susie’s own blog and be inspired at www.susie-chan.com.
16. The National Running Show – Susie Chan as guest speaker
Susie has been confirmed as a speaker at The National Running Show at Birmingham’s NEC on 20-21 January 2018. The UK’s newest and most exciting running event, this is the place to be for runners of all levels and interests!
