Running the ASICS Greater Manchester Marathon for CRUK

Jenny Entwistle will be running the 2017 ASICS Greater Manchester Marathon on Sunday 2nd April and, like many, she has her own very important reason to run.
Having lost her mum two years ago to cancer, Jenny will be running to raise money for Cancer Research UK, one of the official charities for the race. Cancer Research UK is the world’s leading charity dedicated to beating cancer through research, working tirelessly to support those affected by cancer, carry out world-class research into the disease and raise valuable funds to beat cancer sooner.
Here is Jenny’s story in her own words.
“On March 22nd 2015 I lost my mum to cancer.
She was the love of my life and my best friend. I was absolutely heart broken; my whole world was smashed to pieces. She was such an amazing person. A nurse for 40 years, she was loved by so many people. She loved her family, friends and all her animals. Every time we went shopping, it would take hours because she knew everyone!
Before this, I’d had no experience whatsoever with cancer. I don’t think anything could ever prepare you for hearing a doctor say the word.
Running was the only thing that helped me to cope. When I first started, I couldn’t even run 1km! I set myself a target to run a 10K race later that year and in the process fell in love with the sport. A marathon is my way of proving to myself that I am not only physically strong but also mentally.
It’s been a tough journey, and the training was so much harder than I anticipated. I believe running saved my life, so I am determined to cross the finish line no matter how difficult it is. I know my mum will be with me all the way.
Cancer Research UK is close to my heart. I want to be part of the cure, and I want to raise money and awareness for everyone who is suffering and everyone it affects.”
