ASICS Oulton Park Half Marathon & 10K event review: runners of all levels competing at Cheshire’s famous motor racing circuit

The 3rd ASICS Oulton Park Half Marathon & 10K, organised by Xtra Mile Events, took place on Sunday 28th February on the famous Oulton Park motor racing circuit in Cheshire. A key event for club runners from the surrounding areas, this is also a great race for anyone taking on their first 10K or half marathon and runners of all levels were lining up on the start line.

The ASICS Oulton Park Half Marathon & 10K is ideally timed as the perfect training race for all spring marathons, including the ASICS Greater Manchester Marathon in Trafford on Sunday 10th April 2016.

Daniel Balshaw Oulton Park 10K winner

The ASICS Oulton Park 10K started at 10am, with dry and sunny weather conditions prevailing. Daniel Balshaw of Barlick Fell Runners took the lead from the start and claimed the men’s title in a time of 00:34:48. Jose Castillo, Paul Hawkins and Steven Bone were battling it out for the podium with a sprint finish, with Castillo claiming second place in 00:35:50 and Paul Hawkins of Wilmslow Running Club coming third in 00:35:51.

Helen Sahgal Oulton Park 10K winner

Helen Sahgal of Mersey Tri Club was the fastest in the women’s field and secured the win in a time of 00:38:23, ahead of Annabel Ralph who finished in 00:39:22 and Amanda Duffy (Clayton Le Moors Harriers) who came third in 00:45:40.

 

 

Andrew Carlin Oulton Park Half Marathon winner

The start horn for the ASICS Oulton Park Half Marathon sounded at 12.30pm and saw Andrew Carlin of Sale Harriers secure the win in 01:14:21, ahead of Scott Crompton of Bolton United Harriers (01:17:56) and Steven Townley of Sale Harriers (01:18:16).

 

 

Hannah Oldroyd Oulton Park Half Marathon winner

Hannah Oldroyd of Saltaire Striders claimed the top spot on the podium in the women’s field after crossing the finish line in 01:24:28. Runner up Jennifer Bloor of Royton Road Runners finished in 01:28:56 and Catherine Young of Claremont Roadrunners took third place in 01:31:58.

Nicola Pope and Andy Golightly completed the wheelchair half marathon with Pope finishing in 02:10:49 and Golightly in 02:38:47.

The Best Club Trophy (Male) went to Sale Harriers, and Royton Road Runners won the Best Club Trophy (Female).
