Celebration of unique triathlon concept at Rhyl

The Rhyl Sprint Triathlon Festival took place yesterday (Sunday 6th September) and brought participants of all levels from elites to first time triathletes to North Wales.

Entrants could choose from 3 distances: Sprint (750m swim/ 21km cycle / 5km run), Super Sprint (400m / 15km / 2.5km) and Mega Sprint (100m / 10km / 1km), with the sprint distance attracting the largest number of athletes.

All races featured an open water swim in Rhyl Marine Lake, transition on the quayside, a fast, criterium style cycle leg on closed roads along the seafront and a run along the beautiful new promenade past the Pont Y Draig Bridge before finishing on the promenade. The unique course design created regular direct interaction with the supporting crowds who were lining the streets and seafront of Rhyl, bringing a real festival atmosphere to the town.
