The Disfavoured Party wins 2016 Battle of the Bands

Running High Events, organisers of the Vitality Bath Half Marathon, have announced the winner of this year’s Battle of the Bands competition.
The Disfavoured Party, playing at Way Ahead Care on Lower Bristol Road, was the most popular band with runners and has won the 2016 Battle of the Bands title after securing the highest number votes from runners after the race.
The Edsel Furys were the runner up and IDestroy came third.
Following the success of the inaugural Battle of the Bands competition in 2015 the number of bands was increased from six to nine, with a wide range of musical genres from folk to brass, rock and roll, funk, soul, boogie woogie, surf and Irish.
On top of the 2016 Battle of the Bands title, The Disfavoured Party has won a £500 cash prize and the band members will be interviewed live on BBC Radio Bristol shortly. The interview date will be announced on the race’s social media channels for anyone wanting to listen in.
The Disfavoured Party is a hard melodic rock band from Bristol known for its legendary live shows and they have recently released their second EP.
Executive Commissioner Adam Rich from The Disfavoured Party commented: “We thought the participants were running away from us, turns out they were just rushing to get home so they could vote for us! It was for sure the longest duration we’ve ever played for; we started when we saw Robert Mbithi in the distance and we didn’t stop until every last person had passed us. It was a huge thrill to spur the runners on and we would like to thank everyone who took the time to vote for us.”
“We have just released our second EP ‘Inauguration’ which has received great reviews and comparisons to such giants of the genre as Bragg, Strummer and Lydon, and winning the Battle of the Bands title is another reason to be proud. We had a great day at the Vitality Bath Half Marathon and really enjoyed playing for the runners and spectators, thank you again for having us!”

The 2016 race took place on 13th March and was a day of records and achievements, a fitting celebration of the event’s 35th anniversary.
