Ealing Half Marathon partners Plog-olution in Cuckoo Park

The award-winning Ealing Half Marathon has partnered with Plogolution for an event at Ealing Cuckoo Park on Saturday 3rd August 2019.
Plogolution is the latest fitness craze of ‘plogging’, which is running and picking up rubbish at the same time. It was set up to help support fit and happy communities that are dedicated to protecting the environment by getting rubbish of their streets and away from the oceans and rivers. It brings people together in a common cause, tidies up the local area and, crucially, gets rid of discarded single-use plastic that so commonly litters public spaces. It is also a great way to promote healthy living and get people outside enjoying fresh air and exercise.
Plogolution in Cuckoo Park takes place at 1pm on 3rd August and will offer a 5K run or a 2K walk option, so that participants can run or walk the distance that suits them best.
Entry is free and all participants receive a free dry-wick Plogolution t-shirt. The meeting point is in front of Hanwell Community Centre and all equipment is provided.
The efforts of Plogolution are very much in line with the ethos of Ealing Half Marathon, which has its own sustainability measures to reduce the environmental impact of its autumn race. Since the very first Ealing Half Marathon in 2012, plastic bottles from race day have been recycled and these have been reduced in size to the smallest size bottle available. As part of their commitment to reducing waste, runners carry their post-race goodies out of the finish funnel rather than receiving goodie bags with flyers and unwanted items. The race has also made the decision not to offer finisher t-shirts as feedback showed that these were not wanted; this in turn reduces landfill and the carbon footprint of transporting them to the race.
The eighth edition of Ealing Half Marathon takes place on 29th September 2019, and a total of 7,000 runners from over 25 countries are set to take on the 13.1-mile route through the leafy streets of West London. The race is a big favourite among the running community and is well known for its incredible community support and #EalingFeeling. The race starts and finishes in Lammas Park and takes in parts of Central Ealing, Montpelier, Pitshanger, West Ealing, Hanwell and St Stephens.
Sandra Courtney, Race Director, commented, “We are thrilled to partner with Plogolution for our own Ealing Half Marathon Plog at Cuckoo Park on 3rd August. It is a fantastic way for members of the community to get together and do something good for the local environment, whilst experiencing the natural endorphins that come from exercising and socialising. We hope to see lots of Ealing Half runners at Cuckoo Park next month! Spaces are still available for Ealing Half Marathon in September – and with two and a half months to go, now is the perfect time to sign up, train over the summer and have a fantastic autumn goal to look forward to.”
Plogolution takes place at Cuckoo Park in Ealing at 1pm on Saturday 3rd August 2019. Entry is free and registration is open here.
Ealing Half Marathon takes place at 9am on Sunday 29th September 2019. Entry is open and costs £46 (affiliated) / £48 (unaffiliated) until 31st July.
