The organisers of British Airways Run Gatwick have announced that entries are open to the Family Run taking place on Sunday 13th May 2018 at Crawley’s Southgate Park.
The Family Run is one of four races taking place at the inaugural British Airways Run Gatwick, alongside an International Half Marathon, a 5K and a Corporate 5K. It is a fantastic opportunity for children aged 4 and over to take part in this exciting new running event in the south east and experience the thrill of a big sporting event.
A total of 1,200 kids’ places are available for the Family Run and the race is already proving highly popular with young runners from the local area as well as with those who have grown-ups running in the adult races on the same day. The event gives children a chance to develop a passion for running and fitness as well as an amazing feeling of accomplishment as they train for their run and enjoy being cheered on by hundreds of spectators on the day.
The 1-mile route of the Family Run takes runners from Southgate Park, where there will be a pre-race warm up, and out into Crawley on a safe, traffic-free route.
All young finishers receive a bespoke medal, water, banana and a t-shirt for their efforts.
In the run-up to the event, the race organisers will be sending out information on how kids can prepare for the big day, along with a fun training plan. As the days get longer and warmer, this is the perfect time of year to encourage fitness and a great way for families to get active together.
The adult races are also open for entry and places are being snapped up fast as runners from near and far add this highly anticipated spring event to their diary.
The International Half Marathon is set on a closed-road, single-lap course that takes in a combination of town centre, beautiful rural Sussex and Surrey countryside and the buzz of Gatwick Airport. With a fully-equipped event village at Southgate Park, a huge bag drop, festival stage with live music and commentary, staggered start times, a fantastic team of pacers and regular toilets and water stations, runners can look forward to a first-class race experience.
The 5K race is perfect both for new runners wanting a challenge and for experienced runners looking for a short, fast race. The Corporate 5K, meanwhile, has generated lots of interest among local businesses wanting to get active together and vie for the title of the fastest business.
British Airways Run Gatwick is organised by the same team behind the award-winning Intersport Run Reigate Half Marathon and 10K. Intersport Run Reigate won Gold for the Best Half Marathon at The 2017 Running Awards and has again been shortlisted for the 2018 awards.
Race Director Dave Kelly added, “There are less than two months to go until British Airways Run Gatwick and now is the time to sign up to the Family Run and get children excited about this superb day of sport. The one-mile route in and around Crawley is perfect for young runners of all ages and abilities. They will receive fantastic support all the way round and love being cheered on as they cross the finish line and receive their well-deserved medal. Any adults wishing to take part in the other events are encouraged to sign up now, too, and secure their place on the start line of what promises to be a thrilling set of races. We are looking forward to welcoming runners young and old to the very first British Airways Run Gatwick.”
The 2018 British Airways Run Gatwick takes place on Sunday 13th May and entries are open to all races.
The Family Run takes place at 12.30pm and costs £12 per child. Adults are able to run with their child for £1 and will need to register at the same time as their child.
