UK’s first draft legal race at Oulton Park Autumn Duathlon

The Oulton Park Autumn Duathlon took place on Sunday 4th October 2015 at the famous motor racing circuit in Cheshire, featuring a sprint and a standard distance race.
The standard distance race hosted the Triathlon England National Duathlon Championship and attracted a large field of elite athletes as well as amateur and novice racers. 281 athletes crossed the finish line in the standard distance race and 179 completed the sprint distance race.
The sprint distance race was the first race in the UK to be run as a draft legal race in response to the ITU changing all of their age group sprint races to a draft legal format, and this new concept was very well received by the competitors.
The Oulton Park Autumn Duathlon is held at one of the country’s finest motor racing circuits and offers many unique features including the mass start on the starting grid, transition in the pits and a traffic free race track. The banked hairpin and the track’s super smooth tarmac guarantee a fast and unique racing experience for all competitors, along with excellent spectating opportunities.
Tom Crouch and Ian Lawton were battling it out for the title in the sprint distance race with Crouch taking the lead during the final run leg and claiming the title in 01:00:49, twenty-seven seconds ahead of Lawton. Tom Snape took third place in a time of 01:03:50. Claire Steels was dominating the women’s field and secured the win in 01:10:09, ahead of Holly Flannery who crossed the finish line in 01:11:15 and Jacqui Phillips in 01:12:05.
Carl Avery, who won the sprint distance race at the Oulton Park Spring Duathlon in March, competed in the standard distance race yesterday and secured the top spot on the podium in a time of 01:38:24. Runner up Daniel Jenkin finished in 01:39:34 and Paul Vernon came third in 01:40:05. Ellie Campbell was fastest in the women’s field and claimed the win in a time of 01:55:17. Naomi Eaton crossed the finish line in 01:57:52 and Vicky Smith took third place in 01:57:54.
State of the art lap counting technology was used, giving the competitors individual lap times.
