Intersport Run Reigate Half Marathon & 10K news

The award-winning Intersport Run Reigate Half Marathon and 10K may only be entering its fourth year, but it has already found a winning formula. With a beautiful route through rural Surrey, fantastic community support, a hugely popular Kids Race and an extremely well organised race village, it has recently been voted the UK’s Best Half Marathon at The Running Awards 2017.
So, what is the key to Run Reigate’s success? A quick roundup of their latest news tells us all we need to know, and highlights why you should be on the start line on Sunday 17th September.
Best Half Marathon award at The Running Awards 2017
Being voted the Best Half Marathon (≤ 5,000 participants) at The Running Awards 2017 is no mean feat. This is the only independent and highly prestigious awards ceremony to celebrate the best of running and its culture, as voted by runners themselves. Intersport Run Reigate Half Marathon beat stiff competition to collect the Gold award, a testament to its reputation as a must-do event on the race calendar.
Charity Fundraising
The Intersport Run Reigate Half Marathon and 10K has raised in excess of £500,000 in three years for local charity partners and hundreds of UK charities. 2017 promises to follow suit, with a Star Charity Partner – The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity in partnership with George and the Giant Pledge – and seven local charity partners.
Of these, St Catherine’s Hospice in Crawley is back to provide expert end-of-life care for people in West Sussex and Surrey. All money raised will help the charity with its mission to help everyone face death informed, supported and pain free.
The other local charity partners, each with their own fantastic cause, are The Children’s Trust, Kent, Surrey and Sussex Air Ambulance, Samaritans, The Patrick Evans Foundation, Stripey Stork and YMCA East Surrey. Runners wishing to support any of these charities can find more information on the race website.
Volunteers
Intersport Run Reigate is all about involving the local community and it is credit to the event that so many people come forward to volunteer on the day. It’s a wonderful chance for those unable to run to enjoy the excitement of race day, whilst getting the feel-good factor of contributing to the overall success of the day. Hundreds of volunteers are needed to look after all the runners, and a free place to run in 2018 is available to all of them! Register to volunteer online.
The Canon Kids Race
It’s fair to say that there is almost as much excitement about the Canon Kids Race, for children aged 4-15, as there is about the main event. This cumulative kids’ race, which sees children completing 12 miles in stages between Easter and September before running the grand finale of 1.1 miles on race day, is hugely anticipated by young runners and families from near and far. It is a brilliant way to get children of all ages into regular running and to keep it up long after the event has finished. The second Canon Kids Race in 2017 is set to sell out quickly and young competitors are encouraged to sign up now.
Wheelchair Race
Once again there will be a half marathon wheelchair race at the 2017 Intersport Run Reigate Half Marathon and 10K, confirming its status as an event for everyone. Anyone interested should email the race organisers directly.
High Profile Sponsors
With a list of high-profile sponsors including Intersport Simply Sports, Canon, Brooks Running, Jellyfish and esure, Intersport Run Reigate participants can enjoy a range of generous competitions and prizes, a prime example being a pair of Brooks Glycerin trainers given away earlier this month at Simply Sports, a member of Intersport.
Live Music
As is tradition, Intersport Run Reigate Half Marathon and 10K will be keeping runners motivated and spirits high with live music along the route. Runners and spectators can look forward to a thrilling atmosphere – and any bands, choirs or music groups wishing to take part should make themselves known to the race organisers now.
Race Director Dave Kelly commented, “With less than four months to go, we are putting everything in place for the fourth Intersport Run Reigate Half Marathon and 10K. We have been overwhelmed by the support from the community which is at the heart of our event. Not only have we recently been voted the UK’s best half marathon for under 5,000 participants, we have a string of high-profile sponsors, a selection of fantastic local charities, a hugely popular kids’ race and, of course, a brilliant team of volunteers. We would urge anyone wishing to be on the start line to sign up now, and we look forward to welcoming each and every one of you in September”.
The date for the 2017 Intersport Run Reigate Half Marathon & 10K is Sunday 17th September 2017. Entries are open now, with individual entry £33 / £35 for the Half Marathon and £30 / £32 for the 10K. The Canon Kids Race is open to young runners aged 4-15 years and costs £12.
