The leafy streets of West London were filled today, Sunday 30th September, as runners from over 30 different countries took part in the seventh edition of the Ealing Half Marathon.

The multi award-winning autumn race sold out several weeks in advance and saw thousands of runners of all levels take on the well-supported 13.1-mile route and soak up the famous #EalingFeeling.

Lining up at the start were lots of club runners, including a large contingent of Ealing Eagles, as well as many runners raising money for charity including Alzheimer’s Society and Cancer Research UK. A lot of locals had chosen Ealing Half Marathon as their first half marathon, and many fancy dress costumes were spotted – including a caterpillar, rhino and banana man. British long-distance runner and two-time Olympian Mara Yamauchi was also in the running crowd, as well as a group of runners from Ealing’s twin town Marcq-en-Barœul in France who had made their annual trip to West London.

Thousands of spectators lined the route and the atmosphere was superb, as has come to be expected of this much-loved community event.

The race was started promptly at 9am by popular endurance runner Susie Chan, and Friend of Ealing Half Marathon Lisa Emerson who then jumped in to complete her 7th Ealing Half.

Ealing Half resultsAfter running neck and neck from the start, Jonathan Poole of Serpentine Running Club and Paul Martelletti were battling it out for the title on the last leg in Lammas Park, with Poole defending his title and taking the win in 1:09:02, seven seconds ahead of Martelletti. Ollie Garrod of Epsom and Ewell Harriers came third in 1:09:35.

The women’s title was claimed by Rachel Thomas of Victoria Park Harriers and Tower Hamlets, who crossed the finish line in 1:20:28, a minute and ten seconds ahead of runner up Josie Hinton of London Heathside. Martha Lloyd, also of Victoria Park Harriers and Tower Hamlets, secured the third place on the podium with a time of 1:22:05.

Ealing Half Marathon followed a hugely successful Ealing Mini Mile yesterday, Saturday 29th September, which was sponsored by St Augustine’s Priory and had 1,700 entries from young runners aged 6-16 who completed their own mile race in Lammas Park. For the first time this year the event included a Family Mini Mile for children aged 5 and under, and it proved to be a fantastic precursor to half marathon race day.
