Last call for entries for Ramathon 2017 – The Derby Half Marathon
- Tags:

The organisers of the Derby Half Marathon, or Ramathon, have issued a last call for entries for the popular event which takes place on Sunday 4th June 2017.
With just under two weeks to go, now is the time to secure a place at this flat and fast half marathon that starts and finishes at Derby County’s Pride Park Stadium, home of Derby County FC, the Rams.
Whether chasing a personal best, attempting a race for the first time or fundraising for a worthy cause, Ramathon welcomes runners of all abilities to both the main Half Marathon event and the Mini Ramathon for young runners and families.
The Half Marathon route includes a city centre section which takes runners on some of Derby’s major roads out to the scenic Elvaston Castle Country Park. With barely any inclines across the whole local area, it is one of the flattest half marathons in the country, making it a perfect race for seasoned runners hoping to beat their PB as well as for those entering a race for the first time.
The Mini Ramathon is a 2-mile fun run that starts and finishes at Pride Park Stadium while the half marathon is taking place, and is open to all children and families wishing to experience the excitement of a big sporting event. The race will see Rammie, Derby County’s mascot, run alongside competitors as they navigate around the local Alvaston Park and Pride Park area.
The Half Marathon will start at 9.30am from Royal Way, adjacent to Pride Park Stadium. Firing the starting gun will be Baasit Siddiqui, star of Channel 4’s Gogglebox, who will be joining Ramathon runners after getting the race underway.
Race pacers will be available to help runners hit their target times and will be easily recognisable in their bright pink ‘Pacer’ shirts. Pacers will be running at 5 minute intervals from 1 hr 40 mins through to 2 hrs 20 mins.
The hub of activity on race day will be Ramathon’s Stadium Square, the name for the Race Village, in front of Derby County’s Pride Park. Runners and spectators can gather here before and after the event to enjoy the many facilities and activities on offer, including retail stands, partner stands, baggage storage, running club tents, charity stalls, catering options, a Kids’ Corner including a bouncy castle and face painting, medal engraving, live entertainment and a free pre- and post-race sports massage.
Race numbers can be collected on the Friday and Saturday prior to the event as well as on race day morning. All entries received on or after Thursday 18th May are for collection only.

Race Director Richard Kay commented, “We are just days away from the fourth Ramathon and we are looking forward to delivering yet another first-class day of sport and entertainment for runners of all ages. The Half Marathon is a brilliant opportunity for athletes to run a fast race in scenic surroundings, while the Mini Ramathon is always huge fun for children and families wanting to be part of the action.
“I would encourage anyone still wishing to enter Ramathon to register now and secure their place on the start line of this friendly, well supported and highly professional event.”
All finishers will receive water and a commemorative medal, and the Half Marathon runners will also receive a HIGH5 IsoGel, a banana, a pre- and post-race massage and a technical finisher’s t-shirt. A finisher’s certificate for both events will be available on the website shortly after race day.
