Charity places available for sold out Meridian Windsor Half Marathon
The organisers of the Meridian Windsor Half Marathon have confirmed that public places for the event on Sunday 25th September 2016 sold out on 1st August. Anyone wishing to enter the 34th edition of this much-loved race can however still do so by running for one of the official charities.
The Meridian Windsor Half Marathon is one of the most iconic and longest established races in the UK, boasting a picturesque course with magnificent views of Windsor Castle. Each year the race attracts 6,000 runners from near and far to run the 13.1-mile course on traffic-free roads around Windsor Great Park.
The Meridian Windsor Half Marathon has always been a fantastic platform for charity fundraising, with a stellar line-up of charity partners for runners to choose from.
The race’s official charity partners for 2016 include: CLIC Sargent (Platinum Charity Weekend Partner), Cancer Research UK (Gold Charity Weekend Partner), Help for Heroes (Silver Charity Weekend Partner), Alzheimer’s Society and Bloodwise (Bronze Charity Weekend Partners).
Running for charity is a brilliant way to get involved as the charities provide incredible support to runners every step of the way. In return for helping them fund causes ranging from childhood cancer to wounded ex-servicemen and women, runners can expect charities to provide everything from practical fundraising advice to training tips, running vests and cheering packs. Other extras such as an online training zone from CLIC Sargent and a ‘guess my time’ sweepstake game from Cancer Research UK really help to boost runners’ efforts and motivation in advance of race day.
With just one month to go, there are some great deals for those wishing to secure a place in the prestigious Meridian Windsor Half Marathon whilst raising money for charity. CLIC Sargent is offering half price guaranteed places at just £10 in return for a £250 minimum sponsorship pledge, while Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation is offering places at £1 with a £150 minimum sponsorship and Childlife is offering free guaranteed entry with a £200 minimum sponsorship. Many of these deals are for a limited time only so now is the perfect time to register, start raising sponsorship and build up the miles!
If there was ever a reason to run, the knowledge that you are helping families to stay together while their child receives cancer treatment, perhaps funding research to increase the survival rate of cancer or providing bereavement support to families affected by life-threatening conditions has to be the most rewarding reason for running the Meridian Windsor Half Marathon. Getting fit, joining a brilliant team and experiencing a world class setting are just the icing on the cake.
Race Director Peter Hier commented: “We are pleased that the Meridian Windsor Half Marathon continues to be one of the most popular events on the running calendar and that public places are sold out. It is not too late to register for one of our many fantastic charities, and the race has always been proud to raise substantial amounts for a number of worthy causes.
“We are looking forward to surpassing our fundraising figures this year with the help of our amazing runners who cross the finish line with smiles on their faces and incredible donations for their chosen charities. If you haven’t yet signed up to run, there are some great deals available with our official charities. Join one of our charity teams today and help make a difference!”
The Meridian Windsor Half Marathon takes place on Sunday 25th September 2016. It is a sell-out race in a prestigious, iconic location and charity spaces are currently still available.
