Run Mummy Run, the leading online community for women connected through running, has announced its first ever official charity partnership with Alzheimer’s Research UK.
Alzheimer’s Research UK is the UK’s leading dementia research charity, and with dementia being both one of our greatest health challenges and the leading cause of death for women in England and Wales in 2020, the aim of the 1 year partnership is to increase awareness within the Run Mummy Run community. One in three people born today will develop dementia in their lifetime unless life-changing preventions and treatments are brought about, and supporting Alzheimer’s Research UK will contribute to spearheading research.
Runners can help make a difference to dementia research by signing up to a number of events for Alzheimer’s Research UK via their website , or by taking part in Running Down Dementia (supported by Garmin). This latest campaign will see supporters lace up to run, walk, or jog 100km, 300km, or a distance of choice before 31 August, and participants can join the “Run Mummy Run Community” team after signing up to RDD. The minimum fundraising aim is £100, and there will be exciting giveaways by Garmin for participants every month as well prizes for the top distance and fundraiser. Alzheimer’s Research UK is also the official charity partner of parkrun UK.
Run Mummy Run was established in 2012 and is the leading online community of its kind, for women connected through running. RMR brings women runners together to support and motivate each other, whilst actively promoting kindness, friendship, love, support, equality and unity as core values. The community continues to go from strength to strength in 2021 with over 180,000 members across channels and growing month on month.
Run Mummy Run and Alzheimer’s Research UK are aligned in values and ethos, with strong community support and lots of active followers who want to make a difference whilst being active and keeping fit, which makes it a perfect partnership.
Julia Sobik, Head of Sporting Events at Alzheimer’s Research UK, commented: “We are excited to be the first official charity partner for Run Mummy Run. In the UK dementia disproportionately affects women. Around two-thirds of people living with dementia in the UK are women, while women are also more likely to become carers for loved ones with dementia. Run Mummy Run is the perfect community for us to raise awareness of dementia and encourage its members to support pioneering research by clocking up the miles for Running Down Dementia and signing up to other challenges. This partnership is also a perfect fit because, although there is currently no way to completely prevent dementia, by being active and exercising regularly people can help maintain their brain health and lower their risk of dementia.”
Rebecca Richardson, Head of Partnerships at Run Mummy Run, added: “Leanne and myself are proud to announce the first official charity partnership for Run Mummy Run, and we couldn’t be happier to work with Alzheimer’s Research UK, Julia and her team. We all know someone affected by dementia, and we want to help make a difference to dementia research by raising further awareness of the condition and supporting Alzheimer’s Research UK. There are lots of ways to get involved including Running Down Dementia, and we are looking forward to seeing lots of women lace up their trainers to get some miles in and fundraise for Alzheimer’s Research UK with their runs and walks over the coming weeks.”
