Save the Children Official Charity Partner for Schools Half Marathon

Schools Half Marathon Brighton and Hove 2019

Schools Half Marathon, part of Schools Running Movement by UK Run Events, has announced Save the Children as its Official Charity Partner.

Global children’s charity Save the Children will work with Schools Half Marathon from the start of the new academic year 2019/20, a year which will see thousands of school pupils across the UK complete their very own cumulative half marathon.

Save the ChildrenThe partnership will focus on Save the Children’s work in helping to give children brighter futures in the UK and around the world. The charity helps children to survive, get protection when they are in danger and have the chance to learn, play and be children again. It also carries out vital work in education and it is hoped that fundraising through Schools Half Marathon will help to make a difference to children’s early years learning in the UK – with a focus on Families Connect, a Save the Children initiative that supports parents and children to learn together.

As a charity dedicated to making a difference to children, Save the Children is a fitting partnership for Schools Half Marathon, which is in itself a potentially life-changing movement. Through Schools Half Marathon, children are encouraged to develop healthy habits to exercise regularly, stepping away from screens and electronic gadgets and building confidence through sport. It is an important step towards enhancing physical and emotional wellbeing among children, and one which is gaining huge momentum nationwide.

Schools Half Marathon 2019 medalsSchools Half Marathon is a cumulative half marathon that see pupils run 12 miles at school over the course of a term or half term, before completing the final 1.1 miles at an organised event in front of family and friends. It is fully inclusive and non-competitive, welcoming young runners of all abilities and backgrounds.

Save the Children is one of 12 Foundation Partners for Schools Half Marathon. Together, the Foundation Partners will form an Advisory Committee (AC) which will work as ONE to continue to drive Schools Half Marathon and the Movement forwards with founders Rebecca Richardson and Joe Williams. Other Foundation Partners include specialist running retailer Up & Running and leading ethical water brand One.

Schools Half Marathon Director Rebecca Richardson commented, “We are delighted to welcome Save the Children as our Official Charity Partner at Schools Half Marathon, part of Schools Running Movement.
