Founders of Schools Running Movement Rebecca Richardson and Joe Williams will be speaking at Active Living for Shropshire on Wednesday 11th September 2019.
Active Living for Shropshire is a free half-day workshop looking at the benefits of encouraging active lifestyles to achieve social outcomes.
Hosted by Energize Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin, it takes place at the Flaxmill Maltings in Shrewsbury from 9am to 1.30pm.
The event will bring together a wide range of organisations from across Shropshire to hear about the importance of incorporating physical activity into daily life and how it can make a positive difference to people’s lives.
There will be inspiring stories from people across the county who are making an impact on this already, and attendees will have the chance to talk informally over refreshments and soak up the impressive setting.
Rebecca and Joe are proud to have been invited to present Schools Half Marathon, part of Schools Running Movement by UK Run Events.
Schools Half Marathon is a cumulative half marathon that encourages school pupils to develop healthy habits to exercise regularly. Fully inclusive and non-competitive, it helps youngsters of all abilities to get outside with their friends, reduce screen time and build confidence through sport. At a time when physical inactivity is estimated to cost the UK £7.4 billion annually, this inspiring and potentially life-changing movement has been warmly received by schools and families and has experienced huge growth year on year.
Schools Half Marathon was introduced in Shropshire as a trial in 2017, and went on to welcome 850 pupils in 2018 and 1,800 pupils in 2019. The upcoming school year 2019/20 will see 34 different Schools Half Marathon events taking place across the UK and many thousands of school age pupils achieving their very own half marathon.
Rebecca and Joe are looking forward to attending Active Living for Shropshire to share how Schools Half Marathon is making a difference to young lives and encouraging the nation to #MoveForLife.
Active Living for Shropshire is hosted by Energize Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin in conjunction with University Centre Shropshire and with the kind permission of Historic England and the Friends of the Flaxmill Maltings.
