The On Shrewsbury Half Marathon takes place on Sunday 6th October 2019 and entries are open #ShrewsburyIsOn.
Race organisers UK Run Events, the events channel of #UKRunChat, have moved the event from summer and Father’s Day to autumn in response to valued feedback from runners. The early October date is proving to be hugely popular, with autumn an ideal time of year to run and the countryside around Shrewsbury particularly beautiful at this time of year.
The 2019 event will welcome an increased capacity of runners and the 13.1-mile course will continue to offer a perfect combination of history and scenery. Runners will head out from Shropshire County Showground along the river in the Quarry, through the historic town centre, past hundreds of listed buildings and up the Wyle Cop, the UK’s longest row of uninterrupted independent shops. The second half of the race will take them through the stunning Shropshire countryside before being cheered over the finish line back at the Showground.
The 2018 Shrewsbury Half Marathon proved to be the biggest and best event yet and competitors can look forward to another first-class event in 2019. Lining up at the start will be elite and club runners, repeat runners through to first-time runners and hundreds raising money for charity, all wanting to soak up the friendly atmosphere and picturesque setting.
A #UKRunChat pacing team will be helping runners to hit their target times on the day and there will once more be a first-class race village at the Showground with plenty of entertainment for all to enjoy.
There is also a new addition to the 2019 event – a Family 1.1 Mile to allow families and young runners to experience the thrill of race day. The addition of this new race distance opens the event up to runners of all ages and abilities and will contribute to a great atmosphere on the day.
The 2018 Shrewsbury Half Marathon was won by Paul Jones (Shrewsbury AC) in 1:14:10 and Sophie Birtles in 1:26:16.
