Three months to go until 2018 Shrewsbury Half

Shrewsbury Half Marathon

The organisers of Shrewsbury Half Marathon, UK Run Events, have announced that there is still time to enter the event taking place on Sunday 17th June 2018.

With three months until race day, the race’s 3,500 places are filling fast and runners are being encouraged to secure their spot on their start line of this picturesque half marathon.

Shrewsbury Half Marathon offers a wonderful combination of history and scenery, the course taking runners through Shrewsbury’s Medieval city centre and out into the stunning Shropshire countryside.

The event was taken over by UKRunChat in 2016 to great success, and each year attracts both returning and new runners to #RunShrewsbury. With huge community support, one of the most scenic half marathon routes in the UK and a first-class race village at the Shropshire County Showground, it is a fantastic date for the summer diary.

Shrewsbury Half Marathon UK Run EventsThree months is the perfect amount of time to train for a half marathon, with many 12-week training plans available to help competitors get race fit by the summer. It is also a great time of year to start training, with the longer and warmer days providing extra motivation to get out there and run. From beginner runners through to experienced half marathon runners, the 13.1-mile race is an ideal summer goal and a team of pacers will be present on the day to ensure runners achieve their targets.

Shrewsbury itself is a wonderful location for athletes wanting to bring family and friends along for support, with many choosing to spend the weekend here to enjoy all that the city and surrounding countryside has to offer.

For those wanting to run for charity, the Shrewsbury Half Marathon supports a number of excellent local charities which are now accepting applications from runners.

Race Director Joe Williams commented, “We are excited that it is now just three months until the 2018 Shrewsbury Half Marathon, making this the perfect time to sign up and get training in time for June. The arrival of spring is always welcome as it brings renewed motivation to run, so a summer half marathon in somewhere as beautiful as Shrewsbury is a fantastic goal. This will be our third year of organising Shrewsbury Half Marathon and we are looking forward to delivering the biggest and best event yet.”

Shrewsbury Half Marathon UK Run EventsShrewsbury Half Marathon starts and finishes at the Shropshire County Showground. The course takes runners through the historic streets of Shrewsbury and past over 600 listed buildings as they make their way through the Quarry and along the river, over the English bridge and into the Kingsland Estate. After conquering the Wyle Cop, runners then head out into the Shropshire countryside for the second part of the race, before returning to the Showground to cross the finish line and receive their well-earned medal.

For the first time this year, the event will include the Shrewsbury Half Marathon Corporate Challenge in collaboration with Shrewsbury Business Park. The Corporate Challenge is open to businesses of all sizes wanting to enter a team of 1-5 runners and enjoy getting fit whilst training together, working together and taking on colleagues or rival businesses.

The 2018 Shropshire Primary Schools Half Marathon has also been launched in association with Shrewsbury Half Marathon. Taking place the day before the half marathon race, this is a unique chance for children aged 4-11 to complete their very own cumulative half marathon and enjoy the full race experience. The first 12 miles of the challenge are completed at their school and the final 1.1 miles will be run at the Shropshire County Showground on Saturday 16th June. It is set to be an inspiring and family-friendly weekend for runners of all ages and abilities.

A total of 3,500 places are available for Shrewsbury Half Marathon on Sunday 17th June and entries are open.

General entry costs £28 (affiliated) or £30 (non-affiliated), plus a booking fee. Entry includes a bespoke medal, technical t-shirt, goody bag, free pre- and post-race massages and free race photos (worth £19.99).
