Breathe Unity thumbs up to first parkrun!

New Year is a great time to try something new, plan some running goals and feel inspired about what lies ahead. One of our team at Breathe Unity has already started as she means to go on, by doing her very first parkrun after being motivated by the amazing stories of our friends at parkrun.

A busy mum, Sarah was one of many people signed up to parkrun but yet to do one – and a new year full of promise saw her finally lace up her running shoes early January and make her way to the start line of Preston Park parkrun in Brighton.

Preston Park first parkrun Breathe Unity SarahIt can be nerve-wracking turning up at any new event for the first time, but you couldn’t ask for a more welcoming and supportive environment than parkrun. A relative newbie to running, Sarah had worked up to 5K in her own time and doing her first parkrun was a big milestone. She was given a really warm welcome by the volunteers and other parkrunners and realised that it didn’t matter whether she jogged or sprinted round! It was just a great way for the local community to get together to enjoy the beautiful park and keep fit. As it happened, Sarah ran her first ever parkrun in just under 27 minutes and was chuffed to bits!

“My kids were at the finish line cheering and they couldn’t believe that mummy had done it! I don’t often take time out to do something for myself, but parkrun was brilliant – it’s easy to get to, it’s good for you and it inspired my little ones!” said Sarah. “What an exhilarating way to start the weekend – and the year, come to think of it!”
