Xtra Mile Events Supports This Girl Can Triathlon with British Triathlon

Xtra Mile Events, one of the UK’s leading sports events companies, has announced that its calendar of triathlon events during 2017 will support This Girl Can Triathlon, as endorsed by British Triathlon.
The Cheshire-based company, which organises high profile triathlons, duathlons and running events across the North West of England and Wales, will stage a women-only This Girl Can wave at each of their triathlon events this year. This includes popular events such as the Wilmslow Triathlon, the Llandudno Sea Triathlon in North Wales, the Macmillan Leeds Triathlon and the South Manchester Triathlon, where it is hoped women will feel more empowered to take on a triathlon challenge surrounded by other, like-minded females.
Many of the events include a GO TRI option, which is ideal for complete beginners wanting a low cost, easy pathway into the sport. For example, at the Macmillan Leeds Triathlon on 3rd September 2017, there will be a GO TRI This Girl Can wave, allowing women to experience the thrill of triathlon but over shorter distances.
This Girl Can is a national campaign by Sport England to celebrate women being active, whoever they are and however they do it. Inspiring women and girls across Britain to get involved in sport, with a popular #ThisGirlCan hashtag in use on social media, the campaign has gained the backing of British Triathlon to encourage females of all abilities to get fit and healthy through triathlon.
Race Director Simon Hill commented, “We are thrilled to support This Girl Can Triathlon at Xtra Mile Events, and inspire females of all ages and abilities to get involved in the great sport that is triathlon. It is fantastic to have the support of British Triathlon and we hope that this campaign will open up the sport to many more women wanting to be fit and healthy. We pride ourselves on providing well-organised, fun and friendly events with a brilliant atmosphere, and the option of GO TRI is a bonus for first-timers wanting to experience the thrill of a big event without committing to the full distance.
“We look forward to welcoming women of all backgrounds and abilities to our triathlon events throughout the year, all of which are open for registration now.”
Jenny Vincent of British Triathlon National Lead for Women’s Participation added, “More and more women are getting involved with triathlon at all levels of the sport and British Triathlon are delighted to offer females even greater opportunities to challenge themselves over the coming 12 months.
“It’s such an exciting prospect that Xtra Mile Events have tailored their event offering to allow women the chance to participate alongside each other across a catalogue of fantastic events, and we believe this will encourage even more women to take their first steps in triathlon in 2017.”
Xtra Mile Events is celebrating its 10th anniversary season in 2017. The organisers are passionate about getting athletes of all levels involved, from complete novices to elites, and their triathlons range from pool-based sprint races to challenging open water middle and standard distance races, as well as swycles (swim followed by a cycle leg) and aquathlons (swim followed by a run).
Xtra Mile Events also organise the ASICS Greater Manchester Marathon on 2nd April 2017, well known for being the UK’s flattest, fastest and friendliest marathon, and the Manchester Half Marathon which takes place in the autumn.
